Turning around, Danny was
shocked to see someone behind him. "I didn't know anyone was
here." The man stood there, not saying anything. Danny was a
little scared about this stranger here, but he looks a little
closer and sees that he has seen this man before. But where?
"Danny, I saw her that
night, I was here. Standing right here, when she knelt down and
talked to her mother. I heard everything she said. You just asked
Maureen for a miracle and I showed up. She has an alibi now. I
can tell the police exactly what she, and then have Michelle tell
the police seperately what she said. If we match up, they know I'm
telling the truth. I want to save my little girl."
Danny finally realized who he
was talking to. He ran over to Ed Bauer and gave him the biggest
hug anyone could give someone. Danny's prayers were answered, now
all he had to do was to tell Michelle that she has a new alibi
and she just has to remember what she said that night. Ed stopped
him. "You can not tell Michelle she has a new alibi. You can
not tell her that her father is back in Springfield and you can
not tell her we had this conversation. You are to keep this quiet
Daniel. Michelle can not find out about this." Danny was
confused. "You see, if Michelle knows I'm back and then the
DA finds out I'm back and I'm her alibi, they might not believe
it so much because they'd think we rehersed it." Danny
understood, but didn't like keeping secrets like this from his
wife. However, he agreed not to tell anyone.
Ed called up Frank and told him
he was back and wanted to give his statement about the evening of
Ben's murder. Frank told him to come as soon as possible. When he
arrived at the police station Frank was waiting for him. Ed told
him that he was at the gravesite that night and he could tell the
police what Michelle said that night at her mother's grave. Frank
allowed him to give his statement.
Ed began, "She said, 'Hi
mom. It has been a long time since I've come to visit you and ask
you for advice. I don't know what to do right now in my life. You
know I love Danny with all of my heart, but I think we are going
to have problems in the future. A while back, Danny thought that
I was pregnant and we had played around of the idea of having a
kid, but we decided that now wasn't the best time. Well, I was at
the hospital last week and just happened to talk to Margaret
Sedwick and asked her some questions. I told her about some
problems I had been having, and she asked me to make an
appointment and she will examine me then. Well, I went back and
when I got my results I found out something difficult that I don't
know how to talk to Danny about. Margaret told me that I will not
be able to have children, and if I do get pregnant, it is very
likely that I will lose them within the first months. So I was
hoping that you could help me out here mom. I don't know what to
do.' Michelle was in tears by that point and I couldn't stand to
see my litter girl upset, so instead of going to comfort her, I
left." Frank was shocked to hear that Michelle had an alibi
again, but also shocked about what Michelle said. Ed asked Frank
not to tell anyone what he said because it is private to Michelle.
Frank agreed and let Ed go.
Later that day, Frank brought
Michelle in for the biggest question of her life. "Michelle
there has been some new evidence that's come up in your case and
we need to know what you said when you visited your mother's
gravesite that evening." Michelle looked confused and asked
him why. "Michelle someone was there that might have
overheard what you said, and we are going to need to know if this
person is telling the truth. If you tell me what you said, there
is a very good chance that you will be able to be released, for
good." Michelle was so happy. She recalled the evening in
her mind and told Frank to keep this conversation private.
Michelle told Frank how she can't have children and went to her
mother's for advice on how to tell Danny in the right way. "Frank
I know it sounds silly to ask someone who isn't there, but she
was the only one I could talk to. Drew's upset with me, I can't
really talk to Carmen or Danny about this, so who was I suppose
to turn to that night." Frank told her that he believed her.
He then told Michelle to listen
carefully to the tape of the previous witness' testimony saying
exactly what she said that night at her mother's grave. "Frank,
that's my father's voice. But he is in Africa, how can this be?"
Frank told her to brace herself, her father was there that night
and couldn't seem to gathering up enough strength to comfort you
in your time of distress. "However, you father had to leave
town. That was why we made a tape. I made an extra copy for you
Michelle because I thought you should have one." Michelle
thanked Frank and she filled out the appropriate paper work and
was released.
Danny was waiting outside to see
if what Ed said and what Michelle said matched. When Michelle
came out with a huge smile on her face, he knew everything was
going to be ok. Michelle put the tape in her purse and her and
her husband walked out. Danny told her that she had an option.
She could either stay with him for a week in Springfield, or stay
with him for a week in San Cristobel and attend Cassie's wedding.
"I RSVPed already and told her that it would depend on the
evidence if you and I could make it." Michelle told him that
she would to stay here in Springfield, but she needs a break the
tropics would help her to relax.
They packed up their belonging
and head for San Cristobel. Their mansion by the ocean was still
in one piece and everything was ok for them to live in it for the
week. Their second honeymoon was about to begin. The day before
Cassie's wedding Michelle told Danny to grab a pen out of her
purse, she needed to write a postcard for Meta. Danny found one,
next to a tape that read "Ed Bauer's testimony." "Honey,"
Danny said, "mind if I put this in?" Danny held up the
tape he had discovered. Michelle without looked said it would be
ok she was going to put the card in the mail box. Danny placed
the tape in the machine and heard Ed talking to Frank about what
Michelle had said that night.
...Margaret told me that I will
not be able to have children, and if I do get pregnant, it is
very likely that I will lose them within the first months...
Michelle walked back in just as
her father was telling Frank about Michelle not being able to get
pregnant. "Danny I did not mean for you to find out this way."
Michelle said.
"So its true, we can't have
children together?" Danny said. Michelle told him that it
was true. Michelle was was upset and told Danny that they should
discuss this later. Now was not a good time. Danny got upset and
told her that they needed to discuss it now. Michelle and Danny
sat down on the couch and Michelle explained everything that
Doctor Sedwick had said to her. Michelle told Danny that they
could always adopt a child when they are ready to have children.
Danny understood. He felt though, like a piece of him was missing.
He knew he could never be a father the way his father was, or
Michelle's father was. But Danny understood.
